Extreme Ownership All responsibility for success and failure rests with the Leader. The leader must own everything, there is no one else to blame. The leader bears responsibility to explain the mission, develop tactics and provide training to achieve the mission. If there are people who underperform in the team, the leader had the responsibility to train and mentor them. If they still don’t improve and are hurting the team’s performance then leader must make the tough call to terminate that person and hire someone else. Taking ownership when things fail requires courage and humility. But it’s absolutely necessary to learning, growing as a leader and improving a team’s performance. Leaders should not have emotional attachments to plans or agendas and should have the organization’s problems in mind.
